Dr. Seuss and teaching values through play

By: mike Posted on: February 7, 2012 Comments: 0

We LOVE Dr. Seuss at Camp Kern!  The timeless designs, memorable characters, and great messages are really powerful for kids.  This points to so much of what Camp Kern does with kids.  The YMCA’s values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility come out in the every-day interactions of campers and counselors, and are often just as subtle and textured as the wonderful Doctor’s.

We’re all excited for another summer of camp, for the Lorax movie, and the opportunity to continue to make a difference in the lives of kids!

This year’s visit from Mariemont schools was amazing! We love hosting everyone, and this is a week we look forward to all year long. Here’s a link to the Mariemont Schools photo gallery of the visit. Can’t wait to see everyone next year!

Aliens, Outlaws, Tinkerbell, and Wargals!

By: mike Posted on: July 6, 2011 Comments: 0

Ultimate Kern Week is well underway, and the Camp Kern campers have already helped avert disaster on two occasions.  The camp was invaded by Aliens on Monday night and saw the place overrun by outlaws interested in Kern’s Goldrush.  Without the camper’s bravery and skill, there is really no knowing what could have happened.  See pictures and some videos on Smugmug at www.campkern.smugmug.com.

Day One: Foggy!

By: admin Posted on: June 20, 2011 Comments: 0

Pirate Week has begun…and it’s crazy foggy!  Perfect for the way a voyage of scurvy dogs should start.  All of the deckhands, bilgerats, and officers of the crew are excited and expectant for what’s coming up this week.

Buried treasure?  Arrrr….

Pirate Lords?  Arrrr…..

The Great Pirate Competition?  Arrrr….

Swashbuckling, good shipmates, Davey Jones and the Flying Dutchman, and jolly rogers?  Arrrr…

It’s going to be a great week!  Check out all the pictures at www.campkern.smugmug.com, Summer Camp 2011, Week 1!
